Support worker infection control kit: a checklist

What to carry so you can protect yourself and participants on every shift.

Last reviewed October 2026

Why carry your own kit

Participants' homes don't always have the supplies you need, and community work often has no sink at all. A small kit means you never have to skip a step.

The checklist

  • Alcohol-based hand rub (at least 60% alcohol).
  • Disposable gloves in your size.
  • Disposable aprons.
  • Surgical masks and eye protection.
  • Cleaning or disinfectant wipes your provider approves.
  • Paper towels and sealable waste bags.
  • Tissues.
  • A clean bag for your phone and keys.

Keep it ready

  • Restock after every shift and check expiry dates on hand rub and wipes.
  • Store it somewhere clean and dry — not on the floor of the car.
  • Ask your provider how to get supplies when you run low.
