Match PPE to the task
- Showering and toileting: gloves and an apron.
- Continence care and catheter care: gloves and an apron, changed between tasks.
- Splash risk: add a mask and eye protection.
- Respiratory symptoms: follow your provider's mask guidance.
Putting on and taking off
Put PPE on in a clean area, gloves last. Take gloves off first and clean your hands, then the apron, then eye protection and mask, then clean your hands again.
Dignity matters
Explain why you're using PPE and that it's to protect you both — not because the person is "dirty". Agree where supplies will be kept in their home.
