Infection control for lash and brow technicians

Protecting clients' eyes: tools, products, single-use items and when to postpone.

Last reviewed October 2026

Why lashes need extra care

The eye area is sensitive, and infections such as conjunctivitis spread easily from contaminated tools, hands or products.

The essentials

  • Clean your hands before and after each client, and wear gloves where your procedure requires.
  • Clean and disinfect tweezers between clients according to your procedures.
  • Use single-use mascara wands, micro-brushes and under-eye pads.
  • Decant adhesives and products — never double-dip.
  • Use a fresh pillow cover or towel for every client.
  • Postpone if the client has red, itchy or weeping eyes.

Brows and waxing

Use a fresh spatula every time it touches the skin, and never put a used spatula back in the wax pot.
