Where the infection risks are

  • Starting placements or first shifts without practical experience
  • Not knowing how Australian workplaces expect precautions to be applied
  • Gaps in your resume when applications ask about infection control

The habits that matter most

  • Learn the 5 moments for hand hygiene before your first shift
  • Practise putting on and taking off PPE in the right order
  • Know what to do after a spill or needlestick injury
  • Ask your supervisor when unsure — it's always the right call

Rules and expectations

Placements and employers often run their own induction, and some ask for specific accredited units. A short awareness course helps you arrive prepared and shows initiative on applications. It is written in plain English for people new to Australian workplaces.

What the course covers

Eight short modules: how infections spread, hand hygiene, PPE, respiratory hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, blood and body fluid spills, waste, linen and sharps, and standard and transmission-based precautions. Then a 20-question assessment and your certificate.

Questions

I'm an international student. Can I take the course?+

Yes. It's online, in plain English, and available to anyone in Australia. Your certificate can be attached to job applications.

Does it replace my course's infection control unit?+

No. If your qualification includes an accredited infection control unit, you still need to complete it. This is extra awareness training.

Is this an accredited course?+

No. It is a non-accredited infection control awareness course. It is not a nationally recognised qualification and is not HLTINF006 or any other unit of competency. If a licence, job advertisement or employer asks for a specific unit of competency, check before buying.
