Where the infection risks are
- Direct skin contact, including with broken skin or skin conditions
- Oils, lotions and pots that can be contaminated by hands
- Linen, face cradle covers and tables used throughout the day
- Clients who arrive unwell
The habits that matter most
- Clean your hands before and after every treatment
- Dispense oils with a pump or decant per client — never dip hands into a shared pot
- Use fresh linen and face cradle covers for each client and clean the table
- Avoid treating over broken, infected or inflamed skin
- Ask clients to reschedule if they are unwell
Rules and expectations
Professional associations and health funds expect massage therapists to follow good infection control. Check your association's standards and any requirements from clinics you work in.
What the course covers
Eight short modules: how infections spread, hand hygiene, PPE, respiratory hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, blood and body fluid spills, waste, linen and sharps, and standard and transmission-based precautions. Then a 20-question assessment and your certificate.
Questions
Can I use the certificate for my professional development records?+
Many therapists keep it as a record of awareness training. Check with your association whether it counts toward CPD.
Is this an accredited course?+
No. It is a non-accredited infection control awareness course. It is not a nationally recognised qualification and is not HLTINF006 or any other unit of competency. If a licence, job advertisement or employer asks for a specific unit of competency, check before buying.
