Where the infection risks are
- Razors and blades that can nick the skin during shaves and fades
- Combs, brushes and clipper guards used on many clients
- Capes, towels and neck strips that touch skin and hair
- Scalp conditions such as head lice, ringworm or infected skin
The habits that matter most
- Use a new single-use blade for every shave
- Remove hair, clean and then disinfect combs, brushes and clipper guards between clients
- Use a fresh towel and neck strip for each client
- Clean your hands between clients
- Postpone services over infected or broken skin
Rules and expectations
Some councils register and inspect hairdressing and barbering businesses, particularly where skin penetration such as shaving is involved. Follow your local council's requirements and your salon's procedures.
