Before you start
- Read the door signage and follow the precautions it shows (contact, droplet or airborne).
- Use the products the site specifies for isolation or outbreak cleaning.
- Use dedicated or disposable equipment where the procedure requires it.
Order of work
- Clean your hands and put on PPE outside the room.
- Remove waste and soiled linen first, bagged in the room.
- Clean from clean to dirty and high to low, finishing with the bathroom and floor.
- Pay extra attention to high-touch surfaces: bed rails, call bells, handles, switches, taps.
- Apply disinfectant for the full contact time.
Leaving the room
Remove PPE at the doorway — gloves first, then hand hygiene, then gown, eye protection and mask — and clean your hands again. Clean or dispose of equipment before it's used anywhere else.
